The head teacher of Oldfield School in Bath, Kim Sparling, has stepped down from her post following continued controversy surrounding the academy.
Pupils at the school were told of the departure of Kim Sparling at their morning assembly yesterday, and a letter was sent out to parents informing them.
The letter sent to parents said Mrs Sparling had resigned with effect from 30th April.
It said: “I am writing to let you know that that Mrs Kim Sparling has resigned as Headteacher of Oldfield School with effect from 30 April 2014.
“In the interests of the School, all associated with it and Mrs Sparling, the resignation has been accepted.
“A recruitment process will be undertaken with a view to appointing a new Headteacher to lead the School forward and maintain the ‘outstanding’ Ofsted grading for the benefit of the School and the community.
“Matthew Woodville will continue to hold the position of Acting Headteacher.
“The Governing Body is fully committed to working to address all concerns that have been raised.”
The school is currently being led by deputy head Matthew Woodville and consultant Vanessa Armstrong.
A meeting was held yesterday evening, called by the chairman of governors Stuart Weatherall.
The media have been asked not to report on the contents of the meeting.
Oldfield School had been at the centre of controversy after a recent Ofsted inspection was leaked online by a children’s charity.
Ofsted had issued a limited section eight report about their inspection, but had not publicly published their full report.
During the Ofsted visit, the official body said it received a number of complaints from members of staff at the school, but some of those had fallen “outside its remit”.
Inspectors reported that the “quality of leadership and management” needed improvement.
