Nominations for the best of this year’s building design and build quality are being sought by the Council, as part of their annual awards celebrating the best across the area.

Holburne Place in Bathwick was one of last year’s winners
Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Building Control Awards for Building and Design Quality, sponsored by Bath Stone Group, were established to celebrate the very best of design and build quality in the area.
The awards are divided into categories ranging from small extensions up to large commercial projects.
The Council’s building control surveyors inspect construction work from a building quality point of view but members of the public, architects and designers are welcome to give their nominations for the design quality category.
Councillor Tim Ball Cabinet Member for Homes and Planning, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council wants to hear about extensions, complete houses and commercial buildings that people feel are worthy of a design award – due to the materials used, the suitability for purpose, or any special reason.
“Due to the special nature of the area we would also like nominations in relation to work on listed buildings.
“These awards are aimed to recognise first-rate design and construction and to help to continue and encourage the tradition of the high quality of the district’s buildings.”
“Last year two of the winning schemes in our awards went onto win their categories in the West of England Regional Local Authority Building Control, Building Excellence Awards and have now gone on to be entered as finalists in the National LABC Building Excellence Awards which are being held at the Brewery in London on November 11th.”
The awards are sponsored by The Bath Stone Group producers and manufacturers of their award winning Bath Stone.
Elaine Marson, chairman of BSG, commented: “We are once again proud to be supporting these prestigious awards, and to see high quality in building design and construction being encouraged and rewarded.”
Awards are presented in two categories – Building Quality and Design Quality – for domestic extensions, new dwellings, commercial/public buildings and works to historic/listed buildings.
If you have a nomination, contact Philip Mansfield, Building Control Manager at the Council on 01225 477541 or email [email protected].
The design element of the awards is judged by an independent panel of architects and the award ceremony will be held at the Guildhall, Bath next February.
