A new face will be representing Avon and Somerset Police in Bath as the new city centre beat manager, with responsibility for all the area’s pubs, clubs and licensed premises.
He said: “It’s a big job and an important one. I’m really looking forward to being out on foot patrol and working with everyone involved in Bath’s licensing industry to help make the city a safe place at night for all.”
PC Leadbeater, 26, has been a policeman for five years, working in Radstock, Keynsham and Bath as a front-line response officer dealing with incidents like road traffic collisions, burglary and domestic abuse.
Now he’s moved to Bath Neighbourhood Policing, working alongside two other city centre beat managers and with two PCSOs on his team.
He added: “I’ve always been interested in neighbouring policing. It allows you to get involved in those long-term issues that affect the community and to work with people to deal with them.
“Bath is like any city in that it does have some problems with alcohol-related disorder. However it is unique in that it’s a growing city, a popular tourist destination and has a considerable student population, so it’s an on-going job for the police and our partners to manage the licensing and night-time economy and make Bath an even more attractive and safe place to visit.”
Policing is in the Leadbeater family. Chris is married to PC Emma Leadbeater, who’s also based in Bath, and who won an award last year for trying to save a woman’s life.
