A new interactive online magazine for young people in Bath and North East Somerset is being launched today at a local youth centre.

The website of the magazine has already been launched

Young people from across the area have been invited along to the launch of BZINE – www.bzine.uk – at Southside youth centre in Bath on Monday 14th July.

BZINE has been put together by Bath & North East Somerset Council as somewhere where young people can find advice and information on almost any subject – from employment and training through to health issues.

It will also be a way of young people getting involved in their community and making their voices heard. Regular surveys will be posted online asking young people for their views on issues that affect them.

For example BZINE will debate ‘Narrowing the gap’ – a local consultation looking at the attainment gap between children from poorer and more wealthy families.

Cllr Dine Romero, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth, said: “This is a really exciting development  because as well as just using BZINE as a point of information, young people will be able to register as editors.

“The aim is that they will start to take an interest in publishing, journalism, community activities, simply by sharing their experiences artwork and progress on community projects.”

A photo competition for young people called ‘Where I live’ will also be judged on 14th July by those who come along to the launch, with prizes of £30, £20 and £10 vouchers awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes.

This has been promoted via local youth services and voluntary groups.
