A fire at Moles nightclub in Bath on Saturday morning was caused by a faulty power supply cable, investigators have discovered.
The fire is believed to have started near the main entrance of the building and spread through the ground floor.
The alarm was raised at 8.50am on Saturday morning after a neighbouring shop owner heard the fire alarm in the nightclub and saw smoke coming from inside.
Five fire engines and a turntable ladder appliance attended the fire, as did a number of ambulance crews. George Street was closed to passing traffic until around 1pm, due to the number of emergency vehicles at the scene.
Fire crews initially received reports that the Mallory Knox band who had been recording their album in the recording studio in the building had been staying overnight, which led to a full scale search of the building.
It was later confirmed that the band had left late on Friday evening to spend their weekend at home.
Nobody was in the building when the fire began, and no-one was injured during the incident.
Moles is currently closed while the extent of the damage is assessed and rectified.
