The B3110 Midford Road, the main route through Midford, has been closed by the Council due to increased safety concerns after a landslide.
Avon and Somerset Police closed the B3110 yesterday after the landslip in Midford. It was re-opened later in the evening after a clear-up operation had taken place, but has now been closed again.
Due to the land slippage on the privately owned land, the Council, in conjunction with the owner, has decided to close the road in the interests of public safety until further notice.
The closure is to allow a more thorough assessment to take place to determine the work required to stabilise the land.
Drivers are urged to avoid this road as there is no through access at all.
Diversions will be in place following the A367 Wellsway & Wells Road then A36 Rossiter Road, Pulteney Road, Beckford Road and Warminster Road.
The Council are thanking people for their patience whilst this urgent work is carried out.
The landslip is believed to have been caused by a build up of rain during the past few weeks, which caused movement in the hill.
