Avon and Somerset Police in Bath have named the man who died in the River Avon on Friday night as 42-year-old Donovan Weale.
Mr Weale was a resident of Norfolk Crescent.
Police are continuing to appeal for information regarding the incident, which took place at around 10pm near Norfolk Crescent.
Officers were called to the scene after a member of the public spotted the man in the water.
Police officers jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue the man, pulling him from the water and onto the river bank.
Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was taken to the RUH where he was pronounced dead.
Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information and for witnesses to come forward about the incident.
This death comes soon after that of Christopher Taylor, a student from the University of Bath who drowned in the river at the end of January.
He was originally from Southport in Lancashire.
Since 2009 there have now been five deaths in the River Avon in Bath, including James Bubear, 18, in 2011 and Casper Flagg and Kharunigan Jayanatham, 21, in 2009.
Last year an 850-yard fence was installed along the river bank in an attempt to improve the safety along the river.
