An experimental bus lane extension on the London Road in Bath between the A46 Batheaston Roundabout and the permanent bus lane near Grosvenor Place is to be removed.
The bus lane, created by changing the layout of the London Road near Lambridge, was trialled to see if congestion caused by the railway electrification works near Bath could be reduced.
Near to the junction of Gloucester Road, the A4 was originally two lanes outbound towards the A46, with a single inbound lane, as pictured above.
The trial layout reduced the number of outbound lanes to one, moved the inbound lane to the centre of the road and used the former inbound lane as a dedicated bus lane.
Bath & North East Somerset Council monitored the effectiveness of the layout over the past four weeks and have now confirmed that the current layout will be removed and the former layout restored over two evenings next week (2nd & 3rd September).
The trial was funded by Network Rail.
