Over 50s across the Bath area who are keen to learn about laptops or iPads are being encouraged to put their names down for Age UK B&NES’ beginners’ IT classes.
The local charity runs ongoing four-week courses in Bath; each class lasts an hour and the aim is to teach the basics and improve confidence.
Each pupil receives one-to-one tuition from a volunteer, and areas covered include emailing, using the internet and word-processing.
Comments from recent attendees include:
“Thank you for the opportunity. Volunteer tutors are amazing in giving friendly helpful support. Glad I took the plunge!”
“The course content was excellent and gave a good overview of using computers.”
“The course has been helpful and also so enjoyable – particularly for someone old!”
Janet Dabbs, chief executive of Age UK B&NES, said: “Using computers is such a good way of keeping in touch with loved ones, discovering new hobbies and even saving money by shopping around.
“The classes are also great for people thinking of buying a laptop or iPad, and can help them make up their minds about which suits them best.”
There is no need to bring anything along as Age UK B&NES has some laptops, but if you do have an iPad then bring it with you.
“We have two iPads at the moment but would love to have some more to use in the classes – if you have one you no longer use, then please consider donating it to us – we would put it to very good use!” said Janet.
The four-week courses cost £12 and take place on a Wednesday morning at Age UK’s St Michaels Centre, St Michaels Place, Bath.
