Liberal Democrat Council Delivering On Housing

Early indications are that B&NES Council is ahead of its targets for house building, with just over 500 homes being built across the area in the past year.

545 dwellings having been completed in the area during the financial year of 2013-14. This annual rate is over 100 higher than that of the previous administration.

The majority of these homes have been built in Bath and the Somer Valley and 120 of them are affordable homes.

Councillor Tim Ball (Liberal Democrat, Twerton), Cabinet member for Homes and Planning, said: “With a growing population and above average house prices, it’s clear that we need to get on and build in Bath and North East Somerset.

“So it’s great news for residents that we are meeting – and beating – our housing targets.

“There is much more to come in the next year: work is just beginning at Somerdale in Keynsham and will begin soon at some other major sites – Somerdale, K2, NRR and the former MoD land in Bath.

“House building is good for our local economy and local employment. We are also able to secure financial contributions from developers which are used to invest in infrastructure to benefit the whole community.”
