The Royal United Hospital in Bath is to host a virtual event later this month to provide an update on the construction of the new Dyson Cancer Centre.
Those attending will be able to hear from clinicians who will be moving to the new centre, the team running the project, Macmillan Cancer Support and construction partner Kier, as well as the RUH’s Art at the Heart team.
Questions from residents about the new building will also be answered.
The new centre is on track to open for patients in autumn 2023.
Once complete, it will provide a home for the majority of the RUH’s cancer services, including oncology, chemotherapy and radiotherapy services and research teams, as well as a 22-bed inpatient ward.
Ros Helps, RUH Lead Cancer Nurse said: “It’s been incredible to watch the plans we were involved in developing take shape over the last year.
“The new building is located by the main entrance to the RUH, so we’ve all been able to keep track of progress!
“The three storey structure is now in place, the roof is on and internal partitions are starting to go in. You can already get a real feel for how incredible this new facility will be for patients, loved ones and staff.
“We continue to provide high quality care in our current location but we are really looking forward to relocating next year.
“We know there is lots of interest in our new building so this is a great opportunity for our community to catch up on our progress and have any questions answered.”
The Macmillan Wellbeing Hub will be a significant feature of the new centre. It will be a non-clinical, calming space where patients, families and carers can receive practical and emotional support.
Representatives from Macmillan Cancer Care will be on hand to outline what the hub will provide and answer any questions.
The new centre has been specially designed to provide a nurturing and therapeutic environment so interior design, the use of natural light, artworks and art installations all have an important role to play.
The RUH’s Art at the Heart Art and Design Manager Hetty Dupays will be sharing some of the interior design work and specially commissioned art that will feature in the Dyson Cancer Centre.
Anyone with an interest in the new Dyson Cancer Centre is invited to join the event taking place on Wednesday 22nd June between 3.30pm – 5pm.
Contact [email protected] if you would like to attend or if you’d like to raise any questions in advance.
The event will be recorded so those who are not able to attend the live session will be able to watch later at a convenient time.
