People are being encouraged to get their application in to become one of seven new public governors at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, with nominations closing on 31st August.
There are vacancies across the City of Bath, Mendip, South Wiltshire, North Wiltshire, North East Somerset and the Rest of England and Wales constituencies, where current governors have come to the end of their terms.
A public governor helps to ensure that the RUH Trust delivers services that meet the needs of patients, carers, staff and local stakeholders.
Governors do this by creating stronger links with the communities that the RUH serves, by reflecting patient and public views and interests.
Anne Martin, Mendip Public Governor, said: “The role of a public governor is to act as a link between local people and the RUH. In today’s NHS it is vital that those providing healthcare and those needing it work responsibly together.
“Over the years I have been amazed at the scale of the RUH and the incredible range of people needed for the good running of the hospital, care of patients and the upkeep of the buildings and grounds and the amount of forward planning needed for such a complex operation.
“If you are thinking of standing for election I encourage you to do so – you will have a varied and important role.”
The core time commitment for public governors is four Council of Governor meetings per year, plus the Annual Members’ Meeting, however, there are many other activities you can get involved in. Governors receive full training for their role.
This autumn, the RUH Trust will be launching its new vision and goals for the hospital, which will shape its future.
Nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday 31st August.
You will need to be a Member of the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust to be eligible to stand in the elections. No formal qualifications are required, just enthusiasm, a willingness to ask questions, be open to ideas, and a desire to make a difference by getting involved in your local hospital.
