A new Chair and three other enthusiastic and dedicated people are being sought to join the Board of Trustees of the Friends of the RUH charity.

The new appointees will join the eight trustees already in post. The appointments coincide with the Friends of the RUH transferring to a new charitable incorporated organisation or CIO on 1st October 2019.

The charity was established more than 60 years ago, with the aim of providing amenities and support services for patients that would not otherwise be provided by the NHS or the other statutory bodies.

The trustees oversee the charity’s two retail operations, the Friends’ convenience shop in the atrium and the coffee shop, as well as the management of the volunteer workforce of some 350 people who provide support to the hospital in more than 20 areas.

Volunteers’ activities include serving drinks on the wards, guiding patients and visitors around the hospital, repairing walking aids and maintaining the courtyard gardens around the hospital estate.

Bernard Rymer, Assistant Treasurer & Trustee, said: “For our new Chair we are looking for someone with strategic management experience, leadership skills and vision, someone who can help take forward the important work we do in partnership with the management of the Royal United Hospitals.

“To strengthen the governance of the Charity we want to appoint three other trustees who can bring knowledge and expertise to the Board and to set and monitor the charity’s strategic direction.

“We especially want to hear from people with expertise in charity governance, information technology, marketing and communications and retail management.”

For more information about the role of Chair or Trustee with the Friends of the RUH, contact Bernard Rymer, Assistant Treasurer & Trustee, on 01225 427377 or by email to [email protected].

To apply, send your CV to Bernard Rymer at the email address above.
