Bath & North East Somerset Council’s cabinet is set to consider a report on the next steps for the redesign and transformation of health and social care services across the area.
The report outlines what options are possible for adult community health and social care services, children’s health services and some public health services.
It follows the decision by the local authority and the Governing Body of Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group (BSW CCG) in May not to extend the contract for these services, which are currently operated by HCRG Care Group, formerly known as Virgin Care.
The report to the cabinet today, Thursday 8th September, details the work carried out so far by the council and the newly established Integrated Care Board (ICB) to establish a model that is able to provide these services at scale, meeting the specific needs of people in Bath and North East Somerset while ensuring service resilience.
The report recommends setting up three workstreams to examine the provision of Adult Social Care Services, Public Health Services and Community Based Integrated Care Services.
Sub-contractors and partners will be consulted ahead of a report on a full business case to be presented to the cabinet in February 2023.
There will also be a report to the November 2022 cabinet on the future adult social care and commissioned services operating model.
Councillor Alison Born, cabinet member for Adults and Council House Building said: “Our aim has always been to ensure safe, high-quality services that meet the needs of residents whilst ensuring public money is safeguarded for provision at the front line.
“Our future delivery model needs to help people lead healthier lives while providing access to the care, treatment and specialist services that are right for them.
“We’ve already carried out a tremendous amount of work, but there’s much more to do. The timetable is challenging, and we have just eighteen months until HCRG Care Group’s contract ends, but we must ensure we shape services in the right way to maximum effect.
“I welcome the progress that is set out in this report and Cabinet will consider it carefully before reaching a decision.”
