From May, Age UK B&NES will be running at new Hub Day every Wednesday at the Hub in a Pub in Chew Stoke, and free transport is on offer to anyone interested in attending.
The first Hub Day is on 6th May, and will start at 10.30am with a visit from a representative from the new Chew Magna Pharmacy, who will talk about the services they will be providing.
This will be followed by the launch of a new art and craft group led by Doreen Bond, from 1.30 – 3.30pm.
This group will continue to meet on the first and third Wednesday of the month. This session will cost £3.
An Age UK B&NES Information and Advice worker will also be available at every Hub Day, from 2.30 – 4pm – they will be able to provide advice on a range of subjects including benefits, finance, housing, local services and care planning.
Gadget Busters will continue to run on second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 1.30 – 3.30pm. This is for anyone wanting to get more out of their IT gadgets.
People normally turn up with all sorts of questions, from how to download music onto their laptops, to how to use their iPad, or learning how to text. This session costs £3.
Bath & North East Somerset Council’s community library will be open during Hubday, and an expert in Family and Local History will also visit regularly for drop-in sessions. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer free transport to people who would love to come along and get involved in our sessions, but don’t have access to transport,” said Janet Dabbs, chief executive of Age UK B&NES.
“We would also really like to hear from local people who would be willing to volunteer a couple of hours a month of their time to get involved in Hub Days, sharing their interests with others.
“These could be anything from pub games, to fishing, writing, gardening or cooking – the list is endless.”
The Hub in a Pub is a partnership between The Stoke Inn, Age UK B&NES, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Library Service and Bath College Community Learning.
The free transport to and from the day can be booked by calling Karen Lyne on 07581 318 978.
