Parents across the Bath area are being invited to attend a free parenting group at Southside Hub, which will start on 2nd October.
The free group is being run by Bath & North East Somerset Council as part of the Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities programme.
The 13-week course starts on Thursday October 2nd, and runs from 9.30am – 12.30pm.
It is aimed at parents with children in the 8 – 17 age range, looking for support and help to improve relationships within the family.
It can help them to address problem areas including substance misuse, peer groups, problems at school and also violence.
Comments from parents who have already taken part include:
- “I am calmer in dealing with issues and feel I have more ideas/techniques to help me manage behaviour.”
- “It was really useful to meet other parents going through similar experiences.”
- “I have stopped trying to score points and it has made me and able to manage and stop situations escalating as much.”
The course has been organised around school terms, however support with childcare is available if required. The course is run in a relaxed manner with warm, approachable and experienced facilitators.
Cllr Dine Romero, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children, and Youth (LibDem, Southdown) said: “The Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities programme was started in 2008 and we have run 30 courses already, supporting almost 300 parents in Bath and North East Somerset.
“The aim is to help improve the confidence of parents, help them deal with communication breakdown, build self-esteem within the family and tackle problems before the barriers become too big.
“This type of support, which is offered across Bath and North East Somerset, can make a huge difference to families as we know from feedback from local parents.”
