Local people across Bath and the surrounding areas are being invited to attend a free event in Saltford, hosted by Bluebird Care (Bath and North East Somerset).

It will be an opportunity for older people living in the area, and their family and friends, to find out about what services are on offer to help them to stay safe, secure, healthy and independent in their own homes.

The event will feature stalls and displays from a number of organisations, all of whom support older people – ensuring they can make the most of later years.

Tim Rowland-Jones, Managing Director of Bluebird Care in Bath and North East Somerset, said: “The over 65 year olds play an important part in our society.

“Not only have they contributed in previous years to the development of civic life, but they also add greatly to the economy, and give hundreds of hours of voluntary time to community groups.

“We rely heavily on older people for all they do, not to mention the support they give by helping out with grandchildren.”

The three-hour engagement event will include stalls from the Well Aware, Healthwatch BANES, New Routes, Contact the Elderly, Care and Repair, Assured Mobility, and Age UK BANES.

Wiltshire Farm Foods will be providing free food tasting samples, and Keynsham Dial-a-Ride will be providing transport.

Those attending will be treated to free tea, coffee, and cake.

Tim added: “Too often, the older members of our society feel isolated with no one to talk to. Part of the job our care workers do includes spending time with people, keeping them company, and giving them a helping hand around the house.

“Our free event will give older people a chance to meet others in similar situations and make new friends.  Also they will be able to discover the array of organisations we have in our area who are there to help.”

B&NES Council’s Sport and Active Leisure team will host a fitness class for those wanting to take part.

The event will be held at Saltford Village Hall, Wedmore Road, Saltford, from 1 pm – 4 pm on Thursday 9th October 2014. For transport, contact Keynsham Dial-a-Ride on 01225 395321.

Other stall holders taking part include Action for Hearing Loss and the Alzheimer’s Society – who will do a short presentation about dementia and the Dementia Champion scheme.
