A Saltford primary school has created an outdoor classroom to enhance pupils’ learning experience after winning £25,000 in a national competition.

Saltford C of E Primary School received the £25,000 Community Award from OneFamily.

Through its foundation, the financial mutual allows its customers to nominate a cause that’s close to their hearts for a Community Award, giving them the opportunity to receive a life changing sum.

Saltford C of E Primary School was nominated for the award by Megan Jackson, a OneFamily customer, who is school governor. It was one of 24 organisations presented with an award in this latest round.

Samantha Honeybell, Early Years Leader and Teacher at Saltford C of E Primary School, said: “Outdoor learning is extremely beneficial for young children as it promotes a healthy and active lifestyle and helps them to understand the natural world.

“The new outdoor area will have an impact on our pupils for many years to come, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone in the local community who voted for us and made the project possible.”

The event was attended by Georgina Smith, managing director at OneFamily Lifetime Mortgages, who went to Saltford C of E Primary School herself as a child.

Georgina said: “It’s great to come back to my old school and celebrate with the staff and pupils.

“Enjoying the great outdoors is a huge part of children’s lives, and the new Outdoor Play Area will provide the children at Saltford C of E Primary School with a fantastic learning experience.

“Our Community Awards are designed to benefit causes close to our customers’ hearts, giving community groups and projects the funding boost they need to continue to offer their vital work.”

OneFamily aspires to make £5million available to its customers through its Foundation to help improve their lives or to help them make a positive difference to their local communities.
