Firefighters dealt with a fire in a house in Twerton yesterday morning that is believed to have been started by an e-cigarette that was being charged.
Three fire engines from Bath’s Fire Station were called to the blaze in the terraced property in Boyce Close, Twerton at 11.06am.
Initial calls suggested there may be people still inside the house, so teams in breathing apparatus began a search of the home.
Fortunately their search found the building to be unoccupied and crews then worked to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters used jets and high pressure hose reels to bring the fire under control.
Extensive fire damage was caused to the first floor and there was smoke damage throughout.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally by an e-cigarette being charged.
Avon Fire & Rescue are taking the opportunity to advise that all electrical items that don’t need to be left on are switched off and unplugged if you are going to sleep or leaving the house.
