Bath & North East Somerset Council is investing in refurbishing the skate park at Royal Victoria Park in Bath and is looking for views on their proposed plans.
The skate park is over 20 years old and the main ramps have reached the end of their lives and need to be replaced.
The Council carried out an initial survey between May and July, gathering the views of local young people, children and their parents, and will be presenting proposed plans for at a series of drop-in events later this month.
These include:
- Thursday 21st August, 2pm – 6pm at The Skate Park;
- Saturday 23rd August, 2pm – 6pm at The Skate Park;
- Tuesday 26th August, 10am – 3pm, at The Guildhall.
Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “These will be informal, open, events where a range of potential designs will be on display and we are inviting anyone interested to drop in and let us know what they think.
“This is a really exciting opportunity and we believe it is important to gather lots of views of riders and would-be riders to help make the park a success.”
Alongside this work to the skatepark, the Council is also making thousands of pounds worth of improvements to play areas by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
The Royal Victoria Park is one of 12 different play areas in Bath and two outside the city earmarked for improvements.
At Royal Victoria Park the triple slide will be removed as it has reached the end of its life. It will be replaced with new play equipment utilising the hillside plus a new safer surface.
The intended age range of the play equipment is 4 – 12 years. People can offer their ideas at an information event from 9.30am – 3.30pm on Thursday 14th August.
Another part of the improvement plans is remodelling the play area building to include newly-refurbished toilets and a small café with outside seating.
Cllr Dixon added: “We are planning ahead to ensure that we will continue to be able to provide the best possible range of play features and associated services on the park site.
“We anticipate that the new skate park will last for the next 20 years.”
