Two of Avon and Somerset Police’s Special Constables seized suspected cannabis and arrested a man after stopping a car in Midsomer Norton on Tuesday 9th August.

SCs Ed Hill and Jamie Padfield were patrolling the town at about 9.30pm when they spotted a car with a faulty brake light.

On stopping the vehicle in West Road they believed they could smell cannabis. On searching the car they found suspected drugs and a quantity of cash.

A 22-year-old Radstock man was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply and later released on police bail pending further enquiries including forensic tests of the seized substance.

Bath and North East Somerset Local Police Chief Inspector Kevin Thatcher said: “This is a great example of the sort of work our Special Constables do, voluntarily and in their own time.

“I would like to thank Ed and Jamie for their efforts. By giving us their time they are helping us to keep our communities safe.”

Special Constables have the same powers and equipment as regular officers but carry out their duties voluntarily. Could you be a Special? Find out more at www.avonandsomerset.police.uk.
