A shoplifter who had been on bail while awaiting sentence for a series of thefts in Bath appeared before magistrates last week to admit even more.

On Monday 2nd February Liam Harwood had been due at Bath Magistrates’ Court for sentencing for eight offences committed in November and December 2025.
He had admitted his guilt at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on 22nd December, and the case had been adjourned for a pre-sentence report looking at all options, including custody.
But the 46-year-old had not met the Probation Service for an assessment as required and committed further thefts. Having been arrested, he appeared in court in custody on 2nd February.
The original eight offences were:
- The theft of Mentos and 22 Bounty bars worth £46.30 from Morrisons Daily at Bradford Road on 10th November.
- At the same Morrisons on the same day, he stole unknown items worth £100.
- On 13th November at Tesco Express at Midford Road he stole five tubs of chocolate, 13 Aero bars and laundry items of a value unknown.
- On 15th November at Morrisons Daily at Bradford Road his haul included 38 Dairy Milk chocolate bars, 36 Aero bars, 12 KitKats, nine Grenade Oreo bars and 21 Yorkies worth £172.
- On 23rd November at Tesco Express at Midford Road the theft of 24 boxes of Ferrero Rocher worth £250.
- On 8th December at Morrisons Daily at Bradford Road he stole coffee, meat and confectionery totalling £475.02.
- On 15th December at the Co-op on Wellsway he stole items worth approximately £159.
- On 19th December at Morrisons Daily at Bradford Road Harwood stole chocolate and sausages worth £80.70.
The more recent charges that he admitted last week at Bath Magistrates’ Court were:
- Stealing wine of an unknown value from Morrisons Daily at Bradford Road on 16th January.
- At the same shop on 22nd January he stole an unknown amount of cheese and meat.
- On Friday 30th January at Sainsbury’s at Frome Road he stole boxes of alcohol of an unknown value.
- On Saturday 31st January at the same Sainsbury’s he stole an unknown quantity of spirits.
- At the same store that day he stole multiple joints of meat of a value unknown.
Harwood also admitted that on 30th January he had breached his bail condition not to enter Morrisons Daily in Bradford Road, Tesco Express in Midford Road and the Co-op on Wellsway, by entering and stealing from Morrisons Daily.
Bath magistrates were told that Harwood, who has a drug problem, had been evicted from supported accommodation at Julian House in Bath due to his behaviour and is now living at his girlfriend’s house in Foxhill and has been offered a job.
Magistrates agreed to give Harwood one further opportunity to meet with the Probation Service for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
They remanded him on conditional bail until 1st April.
The conditions include exclusion from the four stores where he has shoplifted, and he must report to the police station in Manvers Street in Bath once a week.
