A planning application has been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council to turn a redundant church in a village near Bath into a four-bed family house.

South Road Methodist Church in Timsbury, which was built in 1805, closed on 31st August 2025 after serving the local community continually for 220 years.

The Methodist Circuit of North East Somerset & Bath has determined that there is no future community role for the church and hopes it can be converted to a suitable use.

Although not a listed building, it is considered important as a local heritage asset.

To the rear is a meeting room and kitchen, and demolition of these outbuildings is proposed to provide a rear garden and patio area.

Cycle storage will be provided, but there is no vehicle parking on site although there is said to be “ample” on-street parking and a bus stop with a regular timetable within 150 metres.

The planning reference is 26/00336/FUL, and the deadline for comments is 26th February.
