Police appeal for information following series of handbag thefts in Bath

Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal for information following a number of handbag thefts in and around the centre of Bath on Monday (16th May).

Officers are currently investigating six thefts in and around the city centre where handbags have been taken.

These are from the following locations:

  • Waitrose café, The Podium, Northgate Street between 11.30 – 1pm
  • The Forum Café, James Street West, between 1pm – 2.30pm
  • Salvation Army café, Green Park Road between 1pm – 2.10pm
  • Costa Coffee, South Road between 1.15pm – 2.15pm
  • Bills Restaurant, Cheap Street, at approximately 1.15pm
  • Brunel Square at 2.30pm

Neighbourhood Sergeant Victoria Westwell said: “We currently collating information and any available CCTV we can obtain as part of this investigation.

“We believe we have identified a potential suspect and we are actively looking for them.

“I would advise everyone to make sure you are always on your guard against this type of crime.

“Keeping your personal possessions close, never leaving bags unattended and making sure your handbags are secure are just some of the simple steps you can take to reduce your chance of being a victim of this time of crime.

“Anyone with information on any of these incidents should call us now on 101 and quote crime reference number 5216106323.”
