Avon and Somerset Police are trying to trace a man and woman who tried to help the victim of an assault in the SouthGate shopping centre in Bath last month.

A 26-year-old man suffered cuts and bruises after being set upon by a group of young men near McDonalds in SouthGate, at about 10.40pm on Saturday 9th September.

The man was on his own at the time of the incident, which began near McDonalds and continued into New Marchants Passage.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault, but especially a man and woman who stopped their silver car in the middle of the road outside the Forum and ran into SouthGate to help the victim.

Anyone with information which could help is asked to get in touch with police through their website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5217206861.

Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released under investigation, while four other teenage boys have been voluntarily interviewed in connection with the incident.

Police enquiries are continuing.
