Keynsham’s police enquiry office will be relocated to a new home from today, Monday 28th November, moving from Keynsham Library in Market Walk to Keynsham Police Centre in Ashmead Road, one mile away.
An increasing number of people have been calling into the police centre while fewer have been using the desk in the library to contact the constabulary.
As a result of this, it was decided the enquiry office would be moved to the police centre.
The enquiry office at the police centre will have the same opening hours as the library – Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm, and Keynsham’s neighbourhood policing team will continue to be based at the Civic Centre when the enquiry office moves.
North East Area Commander Chief Superintendent Ian Smith said: “The enquiry office in the library has attracted very low footfall, while at the same time we have seen higher numbers of people visiting the police centre to visit us or make enquiries.
“Moving the enquiry office to the police centre is seen as a logical move for service delivery and also a financial one to ensure better use of police resources.
“Our neighbourhood officers will remain at the Civic Centre where they will continue to patrol the Keynsham area as they do now.”
Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “It’s important that police enquiry offices are where local people need them and are using them.
“We’ve seen that since the opening of the Keynsham Police Centre, more local people have been attending the centre with their policing enquiries.
“Residents will continue to have a policing footprint in Keynsham, with the neighbourhood team remaining in the Civic Centre.
“However, the moving of the enquiry office will better meet the needs of local people.”
