A seven-year-old boy was killed in a collision on the M4 near Bath on Tuesday, 26th March, Avon & Somerset Police has confirmed.
Officers were called at around 1pm to reports of a collision between a Scania lorry and a Volkswagon Polo between Junction 18 (Bath) and Junction 19 (M32).
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the child died at the scene.
His family are being offered support by a specialist family liaison officer.
Four other passengers in the car were taken to hospital, with two of them since being discharged. The others remain in hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 13.02hrs to a road traffic incident near Yate.
“We sent five double-crewed land ambulances, two operations officers, two critical care cars, two air ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a hazardous area response team.”
No arrests have been made in connection with the investigation.
