Neighbourhood officers carried out a number of road safety checks in Bath on Thursday morning, 29th June, with some drivers being reported for various offences.
The officers visited the London Road, Lansdown Road and Lansdown Lane in the city.
The aim was to tackle drivers who were putting themselves and other road users at risk by using handheld mobile phone phones, speeding or contravening the width restriction.
Two people were reported for driving on London Road while using a handheld mobile phone. Four people were reported for contravening the width restriction on Lansdown Lane.
Speeds were checked on Lansdown Road, and no one was found to be breaking the limit.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Jon Bagnowiec said: “It was heartening to find no one speeding on Lansdown Road. Road safety is one of the most frequently-raised concerns of our communities.
“Crashes have been caused by speeding and being distracted behind the wheel by using a handheld mobile. Lives have been lost or ruined.
We don’t want to catch people breaking traffic regulations – we want everyone to drive safely.
He added that neighbourhood officers would continue to carry out spot checks at locations across the city.
The police are asking for help to keep Bath’s roads safe and is seeking volunteers for their Community Speed Watch (CSW) scheme.
CSW volunteers are given training to monitor traffic speeds with the aim of educating drivers. They don’t issue tickets, but pass the details of any vehicle breaking the limit to the police, who write a warning letter to the registered keeper.
