The Chairman of the Council is to launch a new art exhibition in the Guildhall, Bath, on Monday 16th September.
The exhibition will run from 17th September until 5th November.
The exhibition is by Clifton Powell, who studied at The Jamaica School of Art, Kingston Jamaica, before moving to the UK at the end of the 1980s. In London he worked with Tempole Art, one of the leading framers and suppliers of Black Art in the UK. With them, he took part in numerous exhibitions including The International Black Art Fair.
He has exhibited alongside established black artists from all over the world such as Paul Goodnight, who he exhibited jointly with in The International Art Exhibition at St Martin’s School of Art.
Councillor Neil Butters, the Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Clifton Powell to the Bath Guildhall. It’s an honour to launch this fantastic exhibition of his breath-taking artwork, which forges greater links with the Jamaican community. I encourage everyone to come along to see these wonderful paintings – many of which will change throughout the course of the exhibition.”
The opening of the exhibition will also be attended by Vivienne Siva, The Jamaican High Commission’s new representative for community relations.
Clifton Powell is known for his unique style which he developed whilst painting in Jamaica. He combines fluid draughtsmanship with realism and a dynamic use of colour. His work explores a wide variety of subject matter – influenced by the places he has travelled and the people he has met.
