A conference looking at issues facing older people in Bath and North East Somerset will take place on Thursday 7th November.
Called ‘Taking control of later life’, it is being organised by local charity Age UK B&NES and will take place at the Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution (BRLSI).
“This is our first conference,” said Age UK B&NES chief executive Janet Dabbs. “We want bring together people and organisations to discuss how we can work together to benefit older people in our local communities.
“We hope it will provide a useful opportunity to debate ideas and issues, as well as a chance to tell people about the work we do to support around 12000 local people, their families and carers every year.”
Speakers include Sir Christopher Ball, former warden of Keble College, Oxford, Director of Learning at the RSA and Chancellor of the University of Derby. He is now a poet, marathon runner and philanthropist and will talk about the importance of older people staying active within their communities.
Chair of NHS B&NES Clinical Commissioning Group Dr Ian Orpen will talk about the importance of end of life care and Jane Vass, head of public policy for Age UK, will talk about funding long-term care.
Pam Richards, Chair of Age UK B&NES Charity Board, will look at the work taking place in the area and plans for the future.
There will be a question and and answer session and refreshments, with the conference expected to finish by 5pm.
Anyone with an interest is welcome to attend, but is asked to register in advance to that Age UK B&NES can cater for everyone.
