Following an inspection today, 3rd March, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s structural engineers have identified a defect in some of the beams supporting the upper part of York Street in Bath.

The road will be closed from the junction of Abbey Street up to Stall Street to enable emergency works to be undertaken.
These are the main beams supporting the road so the Council is having to take immediate action to protect public safety. The road will be closed to all traffic for a period of 8-10 weeks.
This work will also protect the scheduled ancient monument that lies beneath the road.
Alternative access for deliveries to business will be available through Abbeygate Street via Stall Street and Lower Borough Walls.
However deliveries can only take place before 10am and after 6 pm as access is controlled by a rising bollard. All residents parking will be suspended for the duration of the works.
Pedestrian access will continue throughout the duration of the works.
Local businesses and residents will be informed of the works by letter. The Highways team have already erected road closure signs.
The Council have apologised for the inconvenience these works will cause for residents and traders.
