The lockdown restrictions introduced in January saw the theatre having to close, leading to productions being postponed or cancelled.
Up until their three auditoria reopen, the Theatre Royal will be joining with world-famous dance company Rambert in April to live stream their latest work, Rooms.
Audiences will be able to watch the world premiere production as it happens, live-streamed into homes.
A mix of dance, theatre and film which features 17 dancers playing 100 characters across 35 scenes, the run of four performances will take place from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th April.
Danny Moar, Director of the Theatre Royal Bath, said: “Following the Prime Minister’s announcement last week and the setting out of the roadmap for easing lockdown, we are now finalising plans for a season of exciting productions to take place from May through the summer, which will be announced later in March.
“Even while our doors remain closed we have been working behind the scenes to ensure we will be ready to reopen again at the earliest possible opportunity.
“The overwhelming success of our Welcome Back Season in the Autumn and The Play That Goes Wrong at Christmas have shown that theatregoing can be both safe and thoroughly enjoyable.
“We will continue to operate with socially distanced seating until we are able to return to full capacity. We thank audiences for the support they have shown the Theatre Royal Bath over these challenging months and look forward to welcoming theatregoers back in the near future.”
The Egg Assembly, the Theatre Royal Bath’s online community for young people aged 5 to 25, continues to offer a programme of workshops, discussions, performances and activities.
Founded in June 2020, The Egg Assembly has been created by the team behind the Theatre Royal Bath’s Theatre School.
The scheme offers a range of filmed and live content from leading professionals within the creative industries enabling participants to collaborate with artists and creators to discover new ways of mixing technology, performance and art.
Alongside free content, it is also possible to purchase tickets for unique one-off workshops and short-term courses to develop new skills.
When government restrictions allowed last autumn, the Theatre Royal’s Welcome Back Season saw a return to live performance in the Main House as socially distanced audiences enjoyed Jonathan Church’s acclaimed production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal starring Edward Bennett, Nancy Carroll, Joseph Millson and Christopher Bianchi from 14th to 31st October.
Audiences returned to the Ustinov Studio, from 3rd to 22nd December, to watch Lucy Bailey’s celebrated new staging of David Mamet’s Oleanna starring Jonathan Slinger and Rosie Sheehy.
Amongst the 75 live performances staged at the Theatre Royal Bath between October and December 2020, socially distanced audiences also enjoyed the West End comedy hit The Play That Goes Wrong in the Main House over the festive season from 17th to 30th December.
Live entertainment returned to The Egg in December with young audiences enjoying performances of A Christmas Carol by Box Clever theatre company and Hibernation by Little Bulb theatre company.
The Egg also created an innovative Online Advent Calendar to enjoy at home featuring seasonal favourites Snow Mouse and Squirrel who starred in twenty-four mini-adventure films.
Last month, the Theatre Royal Bath live-streamed Toby Thompson’s award-winning I Wish I Was A Mountain on 15th February for audiences to enjoy on screen at home whilst it was performed on the Theatre Royal’s Main House stage.
