Volunteers sought at Cards for Good Causes shop ahead of festive season

To coincide with Volunteers Week, Cards for Good Causes, the UK’s largest multi-charity Christmas card organisation, is calling on would-be volunteers to sign up to help run its Broad Street charity Christmas card shop.

Cards for Good Causes relies on some 6000 volunteers each year to enable it to operate its national network of pop-up shops.

The shops are open from mid-October throughout the festive season, making it ideal for those who are interested in short-term volunteering.

Chief Executive of Cards for Good Causes, Christine Holland said: “Our shops simply could not operate without our wonderful team of volunteers, many of whom return year after year, but we are always looking for more to join them.

“Volunteers really enjoy working in our shops and the income from the sale of cards is a vital source of income for the charities we work with.”

Cards for Good Causes represents more than 250 charities including the 25 members of The 1959 Group of Charities, which includes Cancer Research UK, Barnardo’s, NSPCC, Alzheimer’s Society and RNLI, as well as a list of guest and local charities.

In the past ten years, charities have received more than £40 million from Cards for Good Causes, representing at least 70p in every pound out of which charities have had to pay for the production and distribution of their Christmas cards and any VAT.

“Volunteers Week is a time for charities to showcase some of the volunteering opportunities available and a time that people might be inspired to think about taking up a new volunteering role.

“If you don’t want to commit to year-round volunteering but are looking for an opportunity where you can be part of a team working on something that makes a real financial difference to the charities it supports, this could be for you.”

Training is provided and work is usually in pairs for either a morning or afternoon session.

If you can spare a few hours a week to get involved in the six to ten weeks before Christmas, find out more at www.cardsforcharity.co.uk, email [email protected] or call 01264 361555.
