A unique information and advice service for unpaid carers, based at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, is looking for more volunteers to help continue and expand its service.

The Carer Hub has been open for three months and is in need of friendly and caring people to offer advice, support and a listening ear.

A unique partnership between B&NES Carers’ Centre, Carer Support Wiltshire, Friends of the RUH and the RUH Foundation Trust, the Hub is the first of its kind.

It provides information and advice to the hundreds of carers using the hospital each day, visiting the person they care for or accompanying them to appointments.

Becoming a carer can involve great stress and uncertainty. It can happen gradually or overnight and leave people taking on a caring role for the first time.

“I realised that I needed to look after myself in order to look after my husband.” said carer Fiona Carr.

Volunteers are a vital part of the Hub, giving carers information and directing them to services and agencies in their local area.

“Since becoming a volunteer I feel as though I have a purpose again and have met some very inspiring people,” added hub volunteer Trudy Pile.

If you have some time to spare and would like to find out more, contact Andy Graham at the Carers’ Centre on 0800 0388 885 or email [email protected].
