The Vice-Chairwoman of Bath & North East Somerset Council is to embark on a six-month tour of local projects, as part of an initiative to support rural communities.

The Vice-Chairwoman of B&NES Council, Cllr Karen Walker

Councillor Karen Walker, who represents Peasedown St John, was elected to the role in May by a cross-party group of councillors at the Guildhall in Bath.

She will be visiting charities, businesses, residents’ associations, and schools, to find out more about how they’re making a difference in the lives of others and what impact they’re having in the local community.

Councillor Walker said: “There are so many wonderful projects, initiatives and community-led examples of best practice happening right across Bath & North East Somerset.

“Most of which are run by volunteers who give up their time for free.

“The council is keen to support those ‘unsung heroes’ right across the area, and we want to shine a light on the fantastic work they do.

“In reality, six months won’t be long enough – but I’m determined to visit and support as many local initiatives as I can during that time.”
