Bath-based Wessex Water has apologised after around 70 local residents were sent a letter informing them of upcoming roadworks, which included the line “Tom Wysocki is a twat”.

Wessex Water has confirmed that an investigation has been launched, and said that they are ‘deeply sorry for the inappropriate language and any offence caused by this letter’.

The letter was sent out to a number of properties in Chippenham, ahead of works in the area being carried out by Wessex Water.

The water and sewage company was advising people on social network Twitter that the letter had been ‘maliciously tampered’ with, and they were taking the matter ‘extremely seriously’.

Twitter user @AlanaBarke tweeted Wessex Water this morning, and joked that she was glad Tom Wysocki was being included in their letters.

@wessexwater Really enjoyed reading your letter I revived in the post today. May I congratulate @TomWysocki for being mentioned in dispatches ??? pic.twitter.com/ca6Mg765rZ

A spokesperson for Wessex Water said: “A letter about water supply work was tampered with and contained some inappropriate language.

“We apologised to customers living in the residential street that received it.

“We’ve taken the matter extremely seriously and we’re taking steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
