Aisling Corbett from Bath and her colleagues from the Nando’s South West Region raised £420 at their family fun day for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families.

The family fun days took place at Chippenham Rugby Club on 26th and 27th July.

Staff from restaurants across the region – Trowbridge, Bath, Yate, Salisbury, Basingstoke, Swindon and Newbury – joined in and helped to raise the vital funds needed to support young people with cancer.

The fun day included a variety of activities, such as sports day competitions, funfair games, a 5-a-side football tournament and a party in the evening.

Aisling Corbett, manager and one of the organisers, said: “The Nando’s Family Day is an annual event where we bring all of our staff, and their friends and family, together to have a day of fun.

“It’s spread across two days to make sure every member of staff can make it. Every year, each restaurant nominates a charity to donate to and this year we chose CLIC Sargent.

“We were able to raise £420 for CLIC Sargent, which is the most we’ve ever managed to raise at our fun days and we are delighted to help.

“We organised a lots of activities such as a bake sale, funfair games including coconut shy, roulette and skiball.

“But the real money maker this year was to have a ‘wet seat’ for the general managers, so my colleagues and I sacrificed ourselves to let our staff gleefully throw countless water balloons at us!

“We sold the balloons for £1 each and I’ve never seen so much enthusiasm for a water balloon! It’s almost as if they were taking revenge on us for something?! Who knows – but it made a lot of money!

“I’m especially happy that my colleagues chose CLIC Sargent as my husband Luke does so much when working with the Godfathers Rugby team to raise money for this special charity. It’s something we are really passionate about.”

CLIC Sargent fundraising manager Tori Williams said: “We are absolutely thrilled that that Aisling and her colleagues at Nando’s chose to support CLIC Sargent this year.

“We really appreciate the hard work and generosity that has gone in to raising the pounds and throwing the water balloons! Every penny raised will help provide vital support for children and young people with cancer, and their families.”
