Local Bath charity the Carers’ Centre held its inaugural sponsored walk last Sunday, 5th June, at the start of national Carers Week, and raised over £3000 from the event.

Fifty-five walkers participated in the 4.5 mile or 9 mile walking route to raise money for carers looking after sick, elderly or disabled loved ones in Bath and North East Somerset.

The group raised or pledged over £3,000.

Vice-Chairman of the Council Alan Hale officially opened the walk, noting the importance of volunteers and supporters for community events. “The work of the Carers’ Centre is truly appreciated,” he said.

The Carers’ Centre provides support to approximately 4,000 carers from the BaNES area, helping them to manage their caring role by offering information, advice, counselling, befriending and respite opportunities.

The charity also supports young carers aged as young as 5, who will often help with extra duties if they have an ill or disabled sibling or parent.

Local printing firm Minuteman Press Bath was the main sponsor for the event.

Minuteman Press Sales & Marketing Director Dave Dixon said: “It was a delight to support the Carers’ Centre’s walk; the team do such good for the 1000s of carers in our local community.

“We hope to see it as the first walk of many.”
