A special event to remember 1917 through letters, poems and music is to be hosted by the Bath Poetry Café group, commemorating the fourth year of the First World War.
‘Voices 1917: Returning we hear larks’ commemorates the fourth year of the First World War through the words of those who had first-hand experience of fighting on the frontline.
Supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council as part of its World War 1 Centenary programme, ‘Voices 1917’ takes place on Monday, 6th November at 7.30pm at the BRLSI in Queen Square, Bath.
Councillor Paul Myers, (Conservative, Midsomer Norton Redfield) Cabinet Member for Economic & Community Regeneration, said: “This is the fourth of an annual series of events looking at the experience of the First World War through the eyes of those who were there.
“Returning we hear larks’ comes from a poem in which a soldier returning from the horrors of the battlefield hears the beauty of birdsong. Using letters, diaries, poems and popular songs of the period, readers and singers from Bath Poetry Café and Walcot State Choir will host this very special evening of remembrance.”
The event is free but a contribution to Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal is encouraged. The charity supports armed forces veterans and their families.
