A well-used play park in Peasedown St John is to receive some ‘TLC’ as part of Bath and North East Somerset Council’s ‘Staff Challenge’ action day on Monday 19th June.
All across the local authority, officers from a range of departments will leave their desks for a day to spend several hours out in the community working on a variety of social action projects.
Thanks to an invitation to staff from Councillors Sarah Bevan and Karen Walker (Independents) Peasedown St John is taking part in the scheme.
The Eckweek Lane Play Park, which opened in 2003, is nestled within what has become known as the ‘new estate’, the collection of 1,000 homes built in the village since 1989.
Located in-between Saxon Way and Under Knoll, the park is a popular place for children to play, and families to visit during the weekends and school holidays.
Cllr Sarah Bevan, who originally opened the play-park with former councillor Gail Coleshill almost fourteen years ago, said: “We’re very grateful to council staff for offering to spend a day with Cllr Walker and myself at the Eckweek Lane Play Park.”
We’ll be giving the play apparatus a fresh coat of paint and making sure the play space is generally clean and tidy.
The village councillors have also arranged for new litter bins to be installed in the park.
Cllr Karen Walker added: “Residents have been asking Sarah and me for new bins recently. We are pleased therefore to have been able to arrange for this to happen.
“The park’s makeover is part of our larger community-wide campaign to clean up the village this year.”
Cllr Bevan and Cllr Walker will soon be announcing details of their new Street Clean campaign which will see every street in the community being given a spring clean-up over the next 18 months.
The Eckweek Lane Play Park Makeover Day will take place on Monday 19th June from 10 am – 2pm. All are welcome to attend.
