An open morning is being held this weekend in Peasedown St John as part of a drive to sign up more volunteers for the village’s Hive community centre.

The Hive Community Centre | Inset: Lucy Day, centre manager

Since the building was taken over by the Hive management team in 2020, it has grown into a busy community centre with a range of activities taking place on a daily basis.

Thanks to new projects soon to start at The Hive, more volunteers are now needed.

Lucy Day, Hive Centre Manager, said: “We couldn’t do what we do without our wonderful volunteers. From picking up the ‘phone to welcoming visitors as they enter the building, our volunteers go above and beyond!

“This new year we’re launching a range of new initiatives that we need volunteers to help manage. If you’d like to help, please pop along to our Volunteer Drop-In Morning or contact us directly at the Hive.”

Projects soon to start at the community centre include:

  • The Community Fridge – providing free produce to those in need
  • The Saturday Morning Honey Pot Snack Bar

Lucy is also looking for new volunteers to help at reception and join the maintenance team.

The volunteer drop-in morning will be held on Saturday 29th January, 10am – 12 noon at The Hive Community Centre.

The building is also home to the village post office, Swallow Café, and the community library. It is located next to Peasedown St John Primary School on Bath Road, BA2 8DH.
