The Hive, Peasedown St John’s popular community centre, has celebrated its first birthday, with volunteers and staff marking the occasion with a cake.
Formerly the village’s youth centre, the building was taken over by The Hive Management Team in 2020.
Following a period of renovation and refurbishment, it opened in February 2021 and has quickly grown into a busy community centre for local residents.
Lucy Day is the Hive Centre Manager. She said: “Thanks to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far.
“It’s been fantastic to see how busy the building has become with regular events and activities going on.
“On a weekly basis at the Hive visitors will find art classes, yoga groups, health and wellbeing support meetings, mini-athletics for children and the local Women’s Institute meets here too!
“The centre is also home to the village post office, Swallow Café, and the community library – meaning that the building is always busy with people coming and going.
“We also couldn’t do what we do without our wonderful volunteers. From picking up the ‘phone to welcoming visitors as they enter the building, our volunteers go above and beyond!”
The community centre, located next to Peasedown St John Primary School on Bath Road, also has rooms available for hire.
