The rallying call comes as traders gear up for the last few weeks before Christmas.

Mr Norris said: “To paraphrase Lord Kitchener, ‘Bath shops need you’. Every penny counts!”

Mr Norris added that it has been a tough few years for traders, from the pandemic through to high energy bills, which is why making a special effort to support them is so important.

The Metro Mayor, who has backed small shops and other local independents as part of his Shop Local campaign, added: “It’s never been more important for everyone in the West to get behind our brilliant small businesses – the beating heart of their communities.

“They’ve faced huge challenges in recent years – not least those sky-high energy bills – and I know from my conversations that for so many, it’s getting tougher and tougher.

“So with Christmas on the horizon, I urge everyone to stand with our family of small firms and Shop Local.”

There are around 30,000 small businesses across the West of England, employing more than 180,000 people.
