Local MasterChef winner and celebrity chef Ping Coombes is set to join the team at Bath Cats and Dogs Home to help raise money for pets in desperate need.

MasterChef winner Ping Coombes’ cat Roxy

She will be casting her expert eye over a baking competition which is part of the home’s online fete, which takes place over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, Friday 28th – Monday 31st August.

Entries are now open and there are both adult and child categories. The closing date isn’t until 29th August, so there is still plenty of time to grab your oven gloves.

The virtual fete has been introduced to take the place of the home’s popular annual fun day, which usually happens every August Bank Holiday Monday.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the team at Claverton Down have had to cancel all plans for face to face activities.

Ping said: “I am delighted to be supporting Bath Cats and Dogs Home Baking Competition. My family adopted our gorgeous cat Roxy from the home and she has brought so much fun and joy into our lives.

“So pop on your pinnies, grab your spoons and get baking to raise much-needed cash for pusses and pooches in need.”

The bake-off is just one of the many events taking part over the Bank Holiday Weekend. Other activities include virtual talks from the home’s animal experts, prize raffle and an online dog agility course.

Like so many charities, the pandemic has hit the Home’s fundraising abilities very hard with many valuable income raising opportunities such as the Fun Day being cancelled.
