Two Bath-based mums have launched FamiliesInBath, a new parenting website incorporating a chat forum, classifieds, events listings, activities and education information for local families.

The site was created following the closure of the much-loved Bath Mums website at the end of last year.

Sally Long and Manjula Cook knew how much local parents valued the resource, so decided to create a new website for local families.

They chose the name FamiliesInBath as they also wanted to welcome dads, grandparents and other carers.

The site was created in a spectacularly short time following the announcement that Bath Mums was closing, with the pair getting the business up and running in just one month.

Sally said: “It’s been a crazy few weeks and a steep learning curve – from deciding on a name and logo, registering a domain, through to building webpage after webpage. And somewhere in there, we fitted in Christmas!”

Manjula added: “It’s been hard work, but really rewarding to see the finished site.”

Sally and Manjula first met as neighbours with young children over fifteen years ago. Manjula is the IT expert of the team, having spent a large chunk of her career working at the University of Bath in digital information management. She will be working on the developing and maintaining the website.

Sally already knows lots of families in Bath, as she previously ran the Jo Jingles music and movement franchise for under fives in Bath, Keynsham and West Wiltshire. She will be looking after the content and advertising side of the new business.

FamiliesInBath say they have already received a very positive response with lots of local family businesses advertising their groups, and parents starting to chat in the dedicated forum.
