The Peasedown St John members of Lions Club International will be offering their services at this year’s Party in the Park community festival in Peasedown, and in doing so, the organisation has been announced as the Official Event Partner.
The Lions, who have raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes in the area over the last forty years, have teamed up with event organisers to help the day run smoothly in the village on 10th June.
Almost 2,500 people are expected to go and relax and listen to live music at the ninth Party in the Park, which has been organised by a team of local residents.
The size of the crowds expected though mean plenty of volunteers have been recruited to act as stewards.
Party in the Park Co-Volunteer Manager Tom Benyon said: “The local Lions Club has agreed to offer their services and help with stewarding at our event.
“This role is an essential part of the day, a great way to work with family, friends or colleagues and an excellent way to contribute to the community.
“Stewards contribute to safety, fun and enjoyment of all. With the Lions’ help, thirty hours of volunteer time as gate marshals will be covered at our festival this year.”
Lions are an international network of 1.4 million men and women in 202 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters.
Since 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities, with the Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club supporting the local community since their inauguration in 1977.
This year is the 100th anniversary of Lions worldwide, and the 40th anniversary of Lions in the Midsomer Norton and Radstock area.
Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club Membership Chairman, Colin Marsh added: “The Lions are an organisation dedicated to the development of local communities. Whether we are organising events ourselves, or supporting others, the Lions believe in working together to make the area in which we live a better place.
“We are extremely pleased that our Peasedown group will be the Official Event Partner for the 9th Party in the Park Festival this year.
“With our new fundraising group set up in the village, we could see no better way to get involved with the Peasedown community than volunteer at Party in the Park.”
