Dorothy House Hospice Care has announced the last call for the 2017 Bath Moonlight Walk, the women-only sponsored 8km walk, as entries will be closing in early September.
The walk, now in its eleventh year, starts at 10pm on Saturday 9th September from the SouthGate Shopping Centre and takes in the main sights of the city of Bath.
The event begins with a pre-party from 8pm that includes music, stalls and a raffle competition to win a Mulberry handbag worth over £1,000.
Butlers in the Buff will be making an appearance and there’ll be a fun warm-up session before the start.
Registration for the walk costs £20 until Sunday 3rd September or there is a late entry fee of £25 between 4th-7th September.
Entry includes an exclusive Saturday Night Diva t-shirt and sign-up is at: www.bathmoonlightwalk.org.uk.
Members of the local Eames family from Bath are taking part in the Bath Moonlight Walk to support Dorothy House, a charity close to their hearts since much-loved, Louise McDermott was cared for by the hospice before she died in 2013 aged 47 years. Since then the Eames family have raised over £27,540 in a Dorothy House Tulip Fund in memory of Louise.
The Bath Moonlight Walk is Dorothy House’s biggest annual fundraiser and last year attracted almost 800 entrants who raised essential funds towards caring for people with life-limiting illnesses on B&NES, Somerset and Wiltshire.
This year’s theme for the Walk is ‘Saturday Night Divas’ and brings women together to celebrate life and the people affected by end of life care in our community.
Friends, mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmas and sisters will be hitting the streets for the Bath Moonlight Walk dressed in their finest disco gear to celebrate the vital work of Dorothy House and share a great night out.
The Walk is open to women and girls aged 14 and over and if any men would like to join in the fun, Dorothy House has a number of marshalling roles available to men and women (call 01225 721 480 to offer your services). Children 16 years and under must be accompanied by a paying adult and walkers are requested to pledge a minimum of £40 sponsorship or make a donation in lieu of sponsorship.
Walkers can decorate their Bath Moonlight Walk “Saturday Night Diva” T-shirt or put together their own retro, disco outfit. To find a vintage bargain to wear and help the Hospice fund vital patient care, look for your nearest Dorothy House charity shop at https://www.dorothyhouse.org.uk/shops.
Emily Knight, Events Fundraiser, Dorothy House Hospice Care said of the walk: “The enthusiasm of the walkers to support their local hospice is always amazing and it’s often a special time to remember a loved one and have a fun girls’ night out with friends, family or colleagues while also doing something meaningful.
“Last year’s Bath Moonlight Walk raised £95,000 so please sign-up for the walk and help us beat that figure this year as for every £1 we receive from the NHS, we have to raise another £4.”
Rose Eames from Oldfield Park, Bath commented on why she is taking part in the Bath Moonlight Walk. She said: “I am doing the walk for Dorothy House in memory of my sister Louise McDermott who the hospice cared for in 2013 and because they do vital work for the community caring for people at the end of their lives.
“I’ll be walking with my son’s fiancé, Kerrie Hughes and her friend who are both doing the walk for the first time. The Bath Moonlight Walk is a great way for us to support the Hospice and say thank you for all the fantastic care and help they gave to Louise and our family.
“I have fond memories of doing the very first Dorothy House Midnight Walk in Winsley in 2007 so I’d thoroughly recommend it as a great experience to do with your friends or family.”
