Julian House is urging its supporters to attend its last event of the year, to celebrate its 30th Anniversary at a very special venue, the historic Bath Abbey.
The charity is holding a vigil and overnight sleep-in inside the Abbey starting at 9.30pm on Friday 17th November, with the sponsored sleep-in starting at midnight and ending at 8.00am on Saturday 18th November 2017.
The event is being staged in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Julian House Hostel and to raise awareness of the many projects which the charity is now running, supporting homeless and marginalised people in Bath and further afield in the South West.
It is an opportunity to reflect on the issues which surround homelessness and to experience what it is like not to sleep in a comfortable, warm bed overnight.
Before leaving in the morning ‘the overnighters’ will be offered a hot drink and pastry to get them on their way.
In addition to offering respite from risks and indignity of living on the streets, a huge amount of work is undertaken by Julian House and its staff to tackle the underlying problems which have forced clients into this desperate lifestyle.
The Vigil will be led by Stephen Girling, Abbey Missioner, and will include music, readings, hymns, voices form the street, prayers and poems.
A special guest will recite stories before people staying for the sleep-in settle down for the night.
The event is free but you do need to register for the Vigil or for the Vigil and Sleep-In via the following link: https://www.julianhouse.org.uk/support-us/fundraising-event/vigil-and-sleep-in.htm.
