A team from the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity has taken on the fearsome Battle of Lansdown, survived to tell the tale and is now encouraging local residents to get involved next year.
Halloween became even more scary for Lead Doctor Matt Thomas, Operations Officer and Critical Care Paramedic John Wood, Head of Fundraising and Marketing Emma Carter and Head of Operations and Finance Joe Hughes, as they plunged into ice cold water, climbed over vans and crawled through tunnels.
Along with charity supporters Hannah Green, James Christensen and Jenna Laney they raised £1,404 to fund the charity’s lifesaving work.
Great Western Air Ambulance need to raise £2.3million a year to stay operational, and receive no day to day funding from the Government or National Lottery.
Without the support of the people they serve they would not be able to provide this lifesaving service.
Head of Fundraising and Marketing Emma Carter spends her time encouraging people to support the charity.
In October she decided that she would put her money where her mouth is, and took part in the Battle of Lansdown.
Now she is encouraging others to take part in the next event, on 20th March 2016.
GWAAC will be the charity partner for the event, and will receive £1 per entry.
Emma said: “Working for GWAAC I see everyday the great work the team do, and know that without people fundraising for us, this vital service would not exist.
“The Battle of Lansdown was a challenge like no other – it pushed us physically and mentally.
“Plunging into a pool of ice cold muddy water was definitely a shock but the feeling of working together as a team to get through was incredibly satisfying and was entirely different to any other challenges I have previously done.
“I am immensely proud of Team GWAAC and the money we raised. I would encourage people to take up the challenge next year.”
