Bath MP Wera Hobhouse is encouraging community groups across the area to apply for funding from the National Lottery, after learning more about the difference it can make.
Over the last five years, charities and community groups in Bath have received £7.7 million from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the country.
The Community Fund awards grants to strengthen society and improve lives across the UK.
Thanks to National Lottery players, it will distribute at least £4 billion by 2030, supporting activities to create resilient communities that are more inclusive and environmentally sustainable.
Projects in Bath to have benefited from this funding include:
- Trauma Breakthrough, who provide invaluable support to adult survivors of trauma.Southside Family Project, who help to make positive changes in the lives of people grappling with challenges from mental health difficulties to housing issues.
- Bath City Football Club Foundation, who run sports programmes to support people’s physical and mental well-being.
Mrs Hobhouse is now urging other local groups and people with ideas to apply for a grant too.
Wera said: “It’s fantastic to hear that £7.7 million has gone to community projects in our local area over the last five years.
“Thanks to National Lottery players, this money is enabling local priorities to be addressed by local people and I want to encourage anybody in Bath with a great idea for a community project to think about National Lottery funding too.”
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK.
Thanks to them, last year The National Lottery Community Fund was able to distribute over half a billion pounds (£615.4 million) of life-changing funding to communities.
